Understanding Housing and NDIS Supports
NDIS home and living supports and the home itself are not always the same thing.
Individualised Living Options (ILO) can support a participant to decide where and how they live, who they live with and what disability-related supports they need at home. ILO funding does not pay for the home itself, rent, mortgage repayments or ordinary household costs.
Supported Independent Living (SIL) similarly relates to the disability supports provided within the home rather than paying for the property itself.
Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is different. SDA is accommodation funding available to eligible participants who require specialist housing because of extreme functional impairment or very high support needs.
Understanding these differences can make it easier to explore a living arrangement that suits your needs, preferences, NDIS plan and long-term goals.
